The South Loop is an area that is undeniably growing in popularity. Due to its proximity to the Loop and many Chicago tourist attractions, the South Loop is one of Chicago’s finest up-and-coming areas! The northern part of the South Loop begins at Congress Parkway and Lake Michigan outlines the East. Another waterway, the Chicago River, marks the West side of the South Loop, and Cermak Road is its southern boundary. As with any other part of the city there are shops and restaurants throughout the South Loop. Locations unique to the South Loop are the Opera, Gioco, Kroll’s South Loop, and Chicago’s Firehouse Grill.
Much of the South Loop’s appeal comes from its walking distance to huge tourist attractions such as Grant Park, Millennium Park, and the Art Institute, but the South Loop is also home to many of Chicago’s most visited tourist sites. The South Loop is home to the Field Museum, the Shedd Aquarium, the Alder Planetarium, McCormick Place, and Arie Crown Theater. Not to mention football fans flock to the new Soldier’s Field, home of the Chicago Bears. Soccer fans also enjoy the new facility; Chicago’s soccer team, Chicago Fire, has played many games at Soldiers field. Not to mention Soldier’s Field tends to be common place for famous music artists to perform. In the spirit of sports, the South Loop is also home to the United States Soccer Federation headquarters. The South Loop is also near 12th Street Beach. Other historic landmarks in the confines of the South Loop are the row houses of Printers Row and Dearborn Park. Finally, the South Loop is home to many young artists due to Columbia College, a college of the Fine Arts.
With the huge development and transformation the South Loop has been going through, there is ample opportunity to purchase or rent prime real estate. The neighborhood has everything from luxury condos in gorgeous high rises, to loft conversions, even to townhomes. With this influx of real estate a sense of community has immerged as well. The community already organizes events for those who live within the South Loop limits. For example, the Annual Photo Show and the Annual Loft walk are two of the community sponsored activities. During the annual photo show local community members submit their personal photography to give the area a sense of culture and history. The annual loft walk is a walk that takes visitors on a tour of several private residences in the South Loop.
The South Loop is one of the most accessible areas of the city. Five train lines run through the South Loop, including the Metra, the el Blue line, red line, green line, and orange line. Despite all there is to offer in the South Loop it is never crowed and rarely busy. This neighborhood is downtown living with less hustle and bustle.
