Neighborhood Guide
Edgewater is one of Chicago’s northernmost areas, however its proximity to the lakefront, and convenience to the city, has always made it among Chicago’s most desirable areas to live in. Bordered by Foster Avenue on the south, Lake Michigan along the east, Devon Avenue on the north, and Ravenswood Avenue on the west, Edgewater is comprised of popular neighborhoods including Andersonville, Edgewater Glen, Broadway, and Sheridan Road & Edgewater Beach.
Clusters of shops and boutiques, ethnic restaurants, bakeries and cafes, and locals bike riding or walking their dogs can be seen throughout the Edgewater community. Antiquing and collecting everything from days past is also a popular pastime to locals.
Edgewater is home to many high-rise condominium buildings along the lakeshore, as well as mid-rise, multi-unit buildings, and single-family homes.
The Chicago Transit Authority operates numerous bus routes in Edgewater, with several running along Lake Shore Drive with express services to downtown Chicago. Metra’s North Line also runs along Edgewater’s western border, with stations in Rogers Park and Ravenswood, taking commuters downtown or to the North Shore.
