Neighborhood Guide
A pocket neighborhood of Lincoln Square, Ravenswood was originally founded as a community suburb of Chicago in the mid-19 th century and even though it was eventually considered part of the larger neighborhood, it retains its residential feel and unique identity.
Since being designated part of the official Lincoln Square community area, often people conflate the two, though Ravenswood retains a very distinct identity. One of a select few number of neighborhoods served by both the Chicago L and the Metra commuter rail lines, Ravenswood has easy access to the lakefront and its amenities to the east and Lincoln Square’s diverse and historic business district to the west.
While Ravenswood has a large number of courtyard apartment buildings, it possesses a large number of single family homes, two-flats and historic Victorian mansions, including one which is home to Chicago mayor Rahm Emmanuel.
