Neighborhood Guide
One of the newly popular neighborhoods on Chicago’s Near West Side, Ukrainian Village, features historic architecture in its homes and businesses, together with a thriving dining and nightlife scene on its major thoroughfares Chicago Avenue and Division Street.
The neighborhood was recently ranked as the hottest in the country by a national real estate website and is distinguished by largely intact historic housing, protected by a Chicago landmark designation. It has been a mecca in recent years for those looking to live near the city’s center, in a single family home.
The addition of a Mariano’s Market to Chicago Avenue in 2014 added to the community’s desirability and livability. That, paired with an eclectic array of neighborhood standbys there are great options for Latin food, sushi and anything else for which a diner could ask, add to Ukrainian Village’s appeal.
Besides Chicago Avenue, Division Street at the northern border with Wicker Park offers a wide range of other dining and nightlife options with easy access to the great amenities on Milwaukee to the north.
Developers have been working to add apartments, with a great deal of development activity involving rehabbing of existing residences and buildings, upgrading them while keeping intact the neighborhood’s unique feel.
