Apartment construction in the South Loop has come back with a roar in the last year.
During the economic downturn many planned developments in the area stalled but a check of recently completed and planned construction shows that life is back in the area.
Today more than 600 new apartments have come online in the area including the Vesta Lofts, Aviation Lofts, AMLI Lofts.
Those new construction projects are complimented by several rehabilitation projects including the Old Colony Building, 37 W. Van Buren and the former Studebaker building at 2036 S. Michigan.
In the next year, nearly 600 more apartments will come online, including a project at 1000 S. Clark St. and 901 S. State St.
Apartment rental site Domu has a blow-by-blow breakdown of planned projects here. They argue that, while some have said these projects represent an apartment boom, they see a maturing area with slow, deliberate development.
