Good news for housing: Chicago Agent Magazine dug into the recent National Association of Realtors numbers on housing sales and uncovered the most encouraging statistic yet.

The only segment of the market that saw sales declines was houses priced in the bracket from $0 to $100,000. It makes up only 6 percent of the market. All other segments saw year over year volumne increase and homes priced between $100,000 and $250,000 saw a modest sales increase year over year and make up about 54 percent of the market.

And more good news locally, the median sales price of a home in Chicago rose above $200,000 for the first time since the third quarter of 2008.

While it's good news, the area's market still has to climb a bit more before it reaches its high median set in 2007 when it was nearing $275,000.

When most people think of making a housing move, they think of moving themselves, not the residence, but Chicago's in the midst of a landmark move of a landmark house.

The Harriet F. Rees house, a land mark that has spent more than a century at 2110 S. Prairie Avenue is set to begin its move to a new location at 2017 S. Prairie avenue. The move is part of a larger plan to create an entertainment district around McCormick Place and, particularly, to make room for the planned new arena for DePaul.

In case you missed it last weekUrban Real Estate's very own Matt Farrell was recently quoted in Crain's Chicago regarding the increasing number of listings coming into the local market.

Crain's story, "More choice for homebuyers as Chicago listings rise", delved into the gentle rise in home inventory. Last month, 62,316 homes were on the local market which represents a 5.1 percent increase from September of 2013.
