The Near North Side is top of the heap for October 2014. Chicago Agent Magazine crunched the numbers and found that the neighborhood was the top-selling one in the city last month.
The neighborhood had a total off 190, nearly twice as many as the second and third place neighborhoods, respectively Lincoln Park with 98 and Lakeview with 96. The list shakes out a little bit differently if it's adjusted for single family homes, of course.

Part of the city's Bungalow belt is getting a special historic designation, another bit of recognition for the city's workhorse housing construct.
Portage Park will celebrate its addition to the National Register of Historic Places together with 10 other neighborhoods, including North Mayfair and Schorsch Irving Park with a party Dec. 1.
The designation will not stop property owners from changing or demolishing the buildings, but will provide tax incentives for sensitive redevelopment.

In the suburbs, apartment occupancy is the highest it has been since 2007.
According to a report from Crain's demand for rentals in the suburbs isn't abating either. Suburban occupancy is at nearly 96 percent for the third quarter of 2014 according to a survey from Appraisal Research Counselors. The median net rent rose to $1.27 per square foot.
