Monday Real Estate Round-up

Monday Real Estate Round-up New renderings emerged last week of a newly proposed supertall tower from Chicago's own Jeanne Gang that may be destined for the New Eastside.

The Wanda Vista tower has been chopped down from 89 stories to 88 (supposedly due to a Chinese superstition about the number 8). Various published reports confirmed Gang is the architect.

It will be the city's third largest building (just a bit higher than the Aon Center) and will have 9,000 square feet of retail space, 390 condos and a five star hotel.

For more views, head over to the Chicago Tribune and check out Blair Kamin's review of the architecture.

As we reported last week, a Robert A.M. Stern skyscraper has been green-lit but the city of Chicago's plan commission.

The 67-story tower will grace Streeterville at 451 E. Grand. It will be clad in pre-cast concrete and contain 350 residences, a mix of condos and rentals and 900 underground parking spaces.

The developers also plan to improve a 70,000 square-foot park next to the building.

The building will be the developer's first in Chicago.

The first week of the annual "Curbed Cup" competition wrapped up on the site and some of favorite neighborhoods (like the Loop, and Logan Square) made it through the first round of competition.

This week the first round winners will go up against new challengers in the second round.

You'll have to watch Curbed this week to vote. For more on the competition, head over to Curbed here.

The landmark Bush Temple of Music at 800 N. Clark is set to begin its transformation into a residential building comprised of myriad tiny apartments.

Cedar Street developers are converting the landmark building into a series of so-called "micro-apartments" ranging up to 450 square feet.

Crain's has a new video tour of the development in progress here.
