100 New Apartments For The Bloomingdale Trail?

100 New Apartments For The Bloomingdale Trail? The Bloomingdale Trail, a rails-to-trails park plan (also known as the 606) that would create an elevated bike path linking Wicker Park, Bucktown, Logan Square and Humboldt Park continues to attract the attention of real estate buyers and investors, including a new plan to build 100 rental apartments in Wicker Park immediately adjacent to the trail.

Developer Centrum Partners has proposed a mixed-use building for 1759 N. Milwaukee, at Leavitt that would include the existing Aldi Store and add the rental units above in the new seven-story structure.

"We have a great opportunity to do something with this site. Aldi has for years been approached with offers [from other buyers], but the offers have been to buy the building and get rid of Aldi," Graham Palmer, a partner at Centrum told members of the Wicker Park Committee. Their proposal, on the other hand, will keep the Aldi store in place.

The plan is currently making its way through a series of community meetings, so it's difficult to say whether it will be built as it's currently proposed, but it's just the tip of the iceberg for development and real estate along the trail.
