
The Census Bureau analyzed data from 2006 to 2013 in the country's 11 most populous metro area: Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco and Washington, D.C.
In Chicago, the rental population grew a total of 12 percent over that time period and rents rose together while vacancy declined.
