Wrigleyville

Home of the Chicago Cubs and maybe your home too

Description

You don’t have to be a Cubs fan to appreciate the hometown feel of Wrigleyville. Living in Wrigleyville will not only put you in the center of Chicago’s sports scene, but you will also be close to the lake, all the shopping and dining, and CTA. With the Red Line, you are minutes away from anywhere in the city. If you never want to leave this part of Lakeview, we won’t blame you either! The neighborhood has everything you need. It boasts a variety of dining options, from dives to swanky cocktail bars, from hotdogs to Southern barbeque to modern American fare served in an upscale setting. When it comes to nightlife and entertainment, you can also say that Wrigleyville is in the major leagues.

Description

Home to the second oldest ballpark, the iconic Wrigley Field, the area around the stadium is sure to give you some sports fever. From storefronts to sports bars to rooftops, the neighborhood lives and breathes baseball.

Description

This season’s opening game against the Brewers is set for April 7th. After the game, grab a drink in one of the local heavy hitters, such as Murphy’s Bleachers, Cubby Bear, and The Sports Corner Bar & Grill. Don’t feel like driving home? Stay right across from the stadium in the Hotel Zachary, named after the Wrigley Field architect Zachary Taylor Davis.

Description

Once a working-class neighborhood, Wrigleyville has many classic Chicago homes, such as worker cottages, garden apartments, and bungalows. You will also find some greystones here along with more modern, new rowhomes. Many houses have been remodeled on the inside but kept their historic looks on the outside.

Description

Architecture enthusiasts will love exploring the Alta Vista Terrace, a historical street designated Chicago’s first historic district in 1971. Its architect, Samuel Eberly Gross, was inspired by a visit to Europe and wanted to recreate the character of London row houses. There are twenty row houses on each side of the street. Designed as one unit, the house wall features an array of contrasts in color, rooflines, and styles. Take a closer look, and you will notice that those styles are mirrored diagonally across the block. All the row houses are two-story buildings of Roman brick except the four three-story graystones in the center.

Description

Outside the stadium, Gallagher Way is a green space that offers tons of free and family-friend events throughout the year. In the winter, warm up with a cup of cocoa or mulled wine in the German Christmas market. Put on your skating skills to the test on the ice rink. In warmer months, bring a blanket to catch movie screenings and concert series. Occasionally, the park hosts fitness classes and farmers’ markets. So be sure to sign up for updates.

This month, there will be an Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 16, and gameday activities for the whole family starting three hours before each game. On game days, expect to see a game broadcast, live music, and spontaneous visits from Clark the Cub.
