Ravenswood probably has the most disputed boundaries of all Chicago neighborhoods. It is mixed with North Center, Albany Park, and Lincoln Square and sometimes substituted by Lincoln Square altogether. No matter how you draw the map, there is no mistaking Ravenswood, a unique community of quite leafy streets, Victorian homes, industrial manufacturing, craft breweries, and artisanal shops.
Hip, young, and family-friendly at the same time. It is less about the borders and more about the state of mind. Ravenswood is eight miles from downtown Chicago on the city’s North Side. It started as a suburb, later incorporated into the city of Chicago with the addition of the Brown Line and commuter train.
The “Industrial Corridor” created by the railroad track and the large warehouse-sized, industrial, production-ready buildings left behind is now a hub for artists, makers, small businesses, restaurants, and breweries.
It is rightfully called “Chicago’s most diverse beer destination.” Whether you’re looking for a Pilsner, Belgian, or a seasonal oak barrel-aged stout, you’ll find it on Malt Row. Not into hops?
The corridor is also home to KOVAL, Chicago’s craft distillery (famous for its vodka and award-winning whiskey), and VIN312 Winery. Together with the Ravenswood Chamber of Commerce, the businesses here host many events, street festivals, and tastings throughout the year, including Ravenswood on Tap and Taste of Ravenswood, and Ravenswood Artwalk.
