The latest numbers are in and while the familiar names dominated the suburban market yet again, one historic suburb saw a big sales spike.
Naperville lead the pack again, with a 10.33 percent increase from April to May, followed by Aurora (22.17 percent) and Plainfield (16 percent).
But Oak Park, known for its urban feel and historic architecture, saw a big jump in sales, 33.7 percent.

The Chicago metro area had the second highest home price growth in the country between March and April of this year according to the Case-Shiller Home Price Index.
Prices during that period grew by 2 percent, just below the 2.1 percent rate in Seattle and well above most other major metros.
Year-over-year, Chicago's figure was lower at 3.1 percent.

The landmark Tribune Tower, located on a prominent site on North Michigan Avenue, could soon be up for an exciting transformation.
The tower's owner, Tribune Media, is reportedly close to finalizing a deal that would sell the 91-year-old neo-Gothic tower to a partnership including LA-based CIM Group and a local partner, Golub & Company. The price for the tower and an adjacent site would top $250 million.
The future development could see a new residence or hotel...
The latest news from the Illinois Association of REALTORS® is good: May home sales for the nine-county area showed a 7.5 percent increase year-over-year with median sale prices growing by 6.1 percent to $234,500.

While not a strictly residential project, another high-rise has been proposed for River North. This one would bring a hotel with a rooftop lounge and a new restaurant out of New York.
The 18-story, 199-room hotel was unveiled yesterday for the northwest corner of LaSalle and Hubbard. The site is currently a parking lot. It would include a street-level restaurant together with a rooftop lounge and pool.

Another 180 units of rental housing could be coming to River North.
Developer Lennar hopes to build a new tower at 675 N. Wells, currently a surface parking lot. While not much information is available, published reports indicate that the developer could move forward with the project based on its current zoning. A step that would save time in the city's approval process.

A townhouse development under construction in the West Loop has received a slight makeover to make the final buildings more streamlined and modern as they move toward sales.
The townhouse units, located at 20 N. Loomis, will be geared toward the high end of the market clocking in at just over 5,000 square feet and an asking price of just over $2 million.
